OBJECTIVE:
To
decrease the number of sticks within the dialysis unit
by educating staff on needle stick prevention and protocol
for sharps exposure.
ACTIVITIES

Complete an in-service training module (PowerPoint Presentation)
on needle stick prevention.
Complete the CDC's Baseline Program Assessment Worksheet.
This worksheet should be adapted for use in your unit.

Develop
display board of sharps devices for your facility.
Make an inventory list of sharps devices for your facility.
Create a model exposure control plan for your facility.
Complete the sharps crossword puzzle as a warm-up to
your in-service.
Complete all of Appendix A in the Workbook Toolkit.
Create an exposure treatment poster for your facility.
Distribute the CDC's sharps brochure and/or hang CDC
posters in your unit.
After you have completed the Sharps Safety module, and
have documented the required measures, please complete the Project
Reporting Form and submit it to Heather Cecil at hcecil@nw5.esrd.net
