On November 1, 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published the Quality Incentive Program (QIP) measures to be used for performance year 2012, which determines reimbursement for payment year 2014. This includes the requirement for dialysis facilities to report healthcare infections using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) system, NHSN. To meet this requirement dialysis events must be reported for a minimum of three (3) consecutive months in 2012. Facilities are encouraged to join NHSN as early as possible and by July 2012.
