In
September 2001, the Network 5 Medical Review Board organized
The Prevention and Management of Bacterial Infections Task Force.
The Task Force was charged with the responsibility of drafting
a position statement to address the fact that some Network dialysis
providers currently refuse admission to patients who are colonized
or positive for Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE), and/or
methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The resulting
paper entitled ADMISSION OF VRE/MRSA
COLONIZED OR POSITIVE PATIENTS TO NETWORK 5 DIALYSIS FACILITIES
was approved by the Network 5 Board
of Directors and Medical Review Board
during January 2002, and is presented for your information.
