Council Meetings

2010 Spring Council Meeting
The 2010 MARC Spring Council Meeting was held at the Riverside Center in Fredericksburg, VA, on May 18, 2010. Topics included:

Shelia Dabney Memorial Award
MARC presented the third annual Shelia Dabney Memorial Award to Mary Cecelia Johnson at its 2010 Council Meeting. Each year, MARC requests nominations from the renal community and selects one individual who displays Shelia's legacy of determination, goodwill and optimism. Cele was recognized during the annual Council Meeting's awards ceremony.

Patient of the Year Award
The 2010 Patient of the Year Award was presented to an exemplary patient in Network 5 who serves as a role model for his/her peers. Dialysis facility staff members were asked to nominate patients who have been dialyzing for at least 10 years and who show an active engagement in their own health and safety. Congratulations to the 2010 recipient!*

* The name of the patient award winner has been withheld to protect his/her privacy.

2009 Council Meeting

Shelia Dabney Memorial Award
Shelia Dabney, MARC Data Clerk and beloved friend of us all, passed away on August 30, 2007, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. In memory of Shelia's hard work and perseverance, MARC presented the second annual Shelia Dabney Memorial Award to Rita Young, RN, BSN, at its 2009 Council Meeting. Each year, MARC requests nominations from the renal community and selects one individual who displays Shelia's legacy of determination, goodwill and optimism. The winner is recognized during the annual Council Meeting's awards ceremony.

Patient Award - Longest Fistula Use
In 2009, dialysis caregivers nominated patients who have been dialyzing with an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) for a long period of time. At the annual Council Meeting, MARC recognized two patients who have been dialyzing via AVF for 30 and 31 years respectively!*
