Professional Education
In 1995, MARC developed an educational program in an effort to bring high quality and convenient learning opportunities to the Network 5 renal community. Since the program's inception, MARC has educated over 4,000 dietitians, nurses, social workers, technicians, licensed physicians, and  others . Each program strives to offer a variety of current topics and new technologies to address the changing needs of the renal patient population. These programs are constantly evaluated to ensure they are being presented via the most applicable and effective methods. MARC is committed to providing quality continuing education to dialysis staff members, thus it certifies nearly every live program, and many web-based programs, for CE credit.

MARC's educational program has expanded over the years to include hands-on and online training opportunities, as well as a variety of printed and Internet-based materials, to assist providers in their quality improvement activities and processes. In an attempt to involve dialysis facility medical directors in Network activities, MARC introduced its INFORMED newsletter in April 1998. Since that time, INFORMED has been delivered electronically each month to over 2,000 medical directors.

If you don't have the opportunity to attend one of MARC's face-to-face training sessions, please review  the FREE online educational resources for professionals and patients. If you do not find the information you seek, contact the MARC office at (804) 794-3757 or marc@nw5.esrd.net.

Patient Education
MARC provides technical assistance as well as educational information to dialysis patients and families in the Network 5 region and beyond. We can help identify units in a specific area, as well as units that offer a particular type of dialysis treatment. MARC also has many printed educational materials available on a variety of related topics.

In an attempt to reach more patients, MARC staff frequently partner with other patient organizations, including the National Kidney Foundation, American Association of Kidney Patients, American Kidney Fund, and local support groups, to present on patient topics at their events. Popular topics include patient rights and responsibilities, coping, and caregiver health. Patients and families are encouraged to attend MARC's annual Council meeting, which includes sessions targeted to their needs, such as emergency preparedness, treatment options, and vascular access. Registration for MARC meetings is free to patients and their families.
