On July 14, 2008, Fairfax Dialysis Center located at 8316 Arlington Boulevard in Fairfax, Virginia, was forced to temporarily suspend its operations due to extensive water damage in the facility. Patients have been transferred to other area dialysis facilities, and representatives of Fairfax Dialysis Center are keeping the Network 5 office informed of the facility's status. If you have questions or need assistance in locating an alternate facility, please contact the Network office.
As of May 2008, with 100% of facilities reporting, Network 5's AV-fistula rate was 46.1%! Learn more about the Fistula First project.
On April 15, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the revised Conditions for Coverage for ESRD Facilities. This final rule reflects the advances in dialysis technology and standard care practices since the requirements were last revised in their entirety in 1976. The provisions of the final rule are effective October 14, 2008.
In March 2008, Network 5 launched its 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program to draw attention to improving patient safety values among dialysis facility staff and patients. To learn more about the program and apply to participate, visit the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program webpage.

REMARCS
The REMARCS newsletter is a general newsletter that is distributed quarterly to dialysis facility staff. It provides information on current and upcoming Network 5 activities. In October 2006, the Quality REMARCS, Data REMARCS, Transplant REMARCS, and Social Work REMARCS newsletters were all integrated into one comprehensive REMARCS newsletter.

Information Network FOR Medical Directors (INFORMED)
INFORMED was developed in April 1998 as a part of the Mid-Atlantic Renal Coalition's commitment to improve adequacy and engage physicians in Network activities. INFORMED is an electronic newsletter designed to increase information exchange with Network 5 medical directors and practicing nephrologists. The goal is to provide current information that will benefit practices and patients in the Network area.

Patient REMARCS and
Patient Coordinator REMARCS
Patient REMARCS is a newsletter for patients. Copies are sent semi-annually to dialysis facility staff to distribute to patients. Patient Coordinator REMARCS is a newsletter sent to each facility's patient coordinator twice a year. Each patient coordinator is asked to make it available to other patients. Topics in each newsletter include information about patient issues such as:
- Traveling
- Educational opportunities
- Improving dialysis
- Working while on dialysis
- Transplantation
- Resources
- Feature articles written by patients
